  • You will learn how a team at KIT’s Institute for Thermal Energy Technology and Safety (ITES) provides decision-making support if damage occurs in one of the four nuclear power plants in Ukraine. Genetic engineering researcher Professor Holger Puchta, Head of the Joseph Gottlieb Kölreuter Institut for Plant Sciences (JKIP) of KIT, explains how he looks at ethical questions about intervention in the genome in the course of his work with the molecular genetic scissors CRISPR/Cas. Moreover, we introduce you to the KIT Academy for Responsible Research, Teaching, and Innovation (ARRTI). The academy was set up in 2019 as part of the Excellence Strategy at KIT and imparts skills for considering the ethical dimension in the early stages of the research and innovation process. In addition we give you a first insight into the program of the second KIT Science Week which will take place from October 10 to 15 under the motto ”Making the Future Sustainable. Together.“ It combines scientific exchange in expert conferences with events for all those eager to learn. During these events, KIT will enter a dialogue with citizens. Impulses from society thus find their way into research at KIT.
