Business Trips

In the case of professors, accident protection in accordance with the Civil Servants' Pension Act does not require the travel to be approved or ordered. If the trip has not been authorized, it is deemed to be a business trip under civil service accident law if there is no doubt that the trip was for the purpose of carrying out official business. However, the professors concerned bear the burden of proof that they were not on a private trip at the time of the accident, but on a business trip.

KIT deans and heads of institutes approve business trips for members of their organizational unit. The Executive Board approves business trips for heads of institutes and heads of other institutions. This approval ensures insurance cover in the event of damage.

According to the decree of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg, prior approval by the KIT Dean is required for all cases of absence of professors during the lecture period that may lead to an impairment of the planned courses. If the absence leads to an impairment of courses on more than two days, approval by the Executive Board or the Head of Division is required.

The travel expense allowance must be applied for in writing within a cut-off period of six months. Original receipts must be submitted. An extension of the deadline or reinstatement of the previous status is not legally possible.

For professors not covered by collective agreements, the provisions that apply to civil servant professors at KIT apply accordingly.
