Thinking New Work and Diversity Together

Everyone is individual and we all have different needs when it comes to organizing our everyday working lives. As part of New Work, new forms of work are being developed and tested at KIT - and employee diversity plays an important role in this.

New Work refers, among other things, to structural change in the world of work. Digitalization and globalization offer new opportunities and possibilities for organizing work. As in Frithjof Bergmann's original idea from over 30 years ago, the focus is increasingly shifting to independent, human and meaningful work. New Work can encompass very different aspects - from agile working, to the use of mobile technologies for flexible working hours and locations, to new empowerment-oriented forms of leadership.

KIT's diversity concept includes enabling and taking into account individual life plans and situations, as well as developing the potential of all employees. The focus here is also on new, flexible and more individualized forms of work. Diversity and New Work are therefore mutually supportive and interdependent.

This also means that the diversity of employees at KIT must be considered from the outset in current developments in the context of New Work. For example, it is crucial to consider aspects of accessibility in new room concepts and technologies. Equal Opportunities and Diversity Management is therefore conducting a workshop on the topic of "New Work and Inclusion" in cooperation with the representative body for severely disabled employees and the KIT Inclusion Officer as part of the New Work training workshop, which focuses on and discusses the opportunities of current developments in the area of New Work for inclusive work at KIT.
